Barrow To Get Portable Hotel

A proposal for a 240 bedroom portable hotel was given the green light yesterday by Barrow Borough Council. The planning committee met at Barrow Town Hall to give their seal of approval for Snoozebox Holdings Ltd. to provide budget accommodation and social space for the huge influx of contractors that will be heading to Barrow to start work on the successor submarine programme.

The hotel is to be built at Woolbridge House in Cavendish Dock Road.

Plans were granted on the condition that a shuttle bus system is put into place for the contractors using the accommodation.

Each living space will provide everything that a contractor needs; an individual bedroom, an en-suite wetroom with shower, toilet and basin.  All the rooms will be serviced by staff, daily with quality towels and toiletries. Comfortable beds, air conditioning, flat-screen TV, free WiFi and a personal safe guarantees a relaxed and enjoyable stay.

There’s no start date for the hotel to be built, but the one massive advantage with Snoozebox is that it can be operational within 48 hours of arriving on site, and when it’s no longer needed can be dismantled and moved to another location somewhere else.

We’d like to know your thoughts about the introduction of a portable hotel in Barrow. Is it a good idea?  Or do you think it could hurt smaller independent hotels that rely on contractors booking rooms with them throughout the year? Let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you.
