Mr David Briggs, Lord –Lieutenant of Cheshire visited the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury today to view the results of his current initiative.

The Wingate Centre has just benefited from a week of volunteered work under the Lord Lieutenant, David Briggs’, ‘SkillShare’ initiative’.

The scheme was set up in conjunction with the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Community and Voluntary Services Cheshire East to link up companies with skills to share with local charitable groups and organisations who benefitted from professional expertise that they could not afford.

Lee Ramsden and Tom Fletcher, who co-coordinate the project for the Lord-Lieutenant, linked up the Wingate Centre with
Crewe company Construction Linx Ltd. Their Manager Gareth Williams visited the Centre and was impressed at how much the children who used the facilities befitted from their visits. He volunteered a full week of work by his staff and sent in a team of decorators to revamp the interior of the centre before it opened for the season and a team of ground workers to spruce up the grounds.

The Wingate Special Children’s Trust, based in Wrenbury, provide gymnastics training to local children and adults with disabilities and is also one of the foremost disabled children’s respite holiday centres in the UK.  During a season over one thousand children with multiple disabilities will visit the centre for a residential break.

Chris Bridgman, Manager of The Wingate Centre, was delighted by Construction Linx’s enthusiasm for the scheme saying “My thanks go out to Gareth for arranging and supporting the work and for all the contractors who made such an enormous difference to the Centre. It is really fantastic to reopen for 2012 with the Centre looking wonderful, bright and freshly decorated and with all the flowers beds immaculate. It has made a tremendous difference to the Centre.’
