I have to be honest here as I’ve been to plenty of ‘Am-Dram’ performances before in the past…Usually reluctantly, when either duty called, family, friends, kids, or just when I fancied an early evening nap. But just hang on a minute there and hold on to your test tubes and electrodes…As this fun filled Sutton Theatre Company’s stage adaptation of the original Mel Brooks Film classic ‘Young Frankenstein’ (sorry my apologies ‘Schteen’) was anything but Snoozeville! From charismatic lead Will Brown’s opening number with the wonderful ensemble cast, the stage was lit with colour, vibrancy, enthusiasm, humour, music and joy! In fact, the whole production was a blast from start to finish. Coupled with that innocent, but bawdy edged comedy that is all too sadly missing from most of today’s entertainment world. Indeed for a Wednesday opening night there was a very good audience in attendance too.

We laughed, we cried, we joined in the choruses and I fell madly in love with all the leading ladies, particularly Inga played by the gorgeously ‘leggy’ Lara Paterson. But just mentioning a couple of performers would be doing the rest of the cast a major injustice, as there were some pretty stand out stellar performances. Igor played by James Tingey was very funny and impressive as the Hunch back assistant, Jeanette Low suitably sassy and ‘Goldiggerish’ as Elizabeth Benning ‘No touching’ .Jamie Lumsden very convincing as the monster( is that a compliment), Nicky Radford very quirky and strangely seductive as the oddball Frau Blucher, ‘He Voz My Boyfriend’

Then there was Ben Horsburgh who literally gave up an ‘arm and a leg’ for his role as the Inspector in the show whilst Jeff Pearce’s Hermit performance completed a very accomplished set of lead actors. The ensemble too gave their hearts to every song and the familiar sing-along tunes meant that it was not just Frankenstein who could take their brains out for a thoroughly entertaining evening.

The show itself (it’s not a play) runs until Saturday night so including the matinee performance there are (as I write this) only four shows left. So hurry up and get on down to Epsom Playhouse if you don’t want to miss out on this ‘Scare-larious’ production …..You ‘vould’ be very foolish not too ...……………HOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO HAAAAAAA HAAAAAAA

Great place for comedy! Not a huge theatre, so there's a really good connection with the act.

Tremendous little theatre with a strong community vibe.

The seats aren't as uncomfortable as some but there is a nice bar and the staff are friendly.

Saw Hairspray. Loved it. I didn't realise local theatre could be that good.

Lovely theatre, the only negative is the small bar. The layout is all wrong and the queues before and during the interval are off putting.

Really enjoyed the Rod Stewart tribute here which was nearly sold out. Seating is fine although somewhat cramped. There is a bar serving alcohol, soft drinks and tea/coffee. It takes a fair time to be served when there is a near full house. Convenient large car park right next to the venue.
