Southend Rugby Club

Dating back to 1870, Southend Rugby Club is one of the oldest clubs in England with a long and proud history.

Southend Rugby Club is a dynamic organisation. With it's strong Senior teams, burgeoning Junior academy and increasing membership, it is one of the clubs at the forefront of rugby in the South East.

The objective now, as it was then, is to give the residents of Southend and surrounding areas the opportunity to play rugby in a structured format at all levels from the first team, which competes in the prestigious National Leagues, to the 30 plus under 6s who are fledglings to the game.

Southend Rugby Club has a strong following of approximately 1,000 members. Numbers have increased significantly in recent years, fuelled by the success of the first team, the growth of the Junior Academy and rasied interest in the game nationwide.

Teams 

The club offers first class facilities and opportunities to all aspiring players in a safe environment and in a friendly way atmosphere.

The club has 5 senior sides and a 1st team which is one of the top teams in the Eastern Countries and competes in the prestigious National Leagues while the 2nd team competes largely within the South East for the Canterbury Shield. The remaining teams play social rugby and compete in local leagues.

There is also a Junior Academy which The Colts, along with the under 17s to under 6s, make up. The future of any club is its youth and this is an area that has been actively developed.

Become Involved

The modern club house offers a great venue to make any sporting event, business meeting or special occasion a successful one. On a match day the club regularly accommodates 140 people for a formal sit down meal and has a licence for 200 for parties. The club has a team of friendly and efficient bar and catering staff and is also happy to work with outside caterers.

Hall hire is available from 7pm - Midnight from just £250

The venue is regularly hired for Corporate days which includes the use of the club house and pitches.

The rugby club are also able to provide a selection of hot and cold buffets priced from £5.85 pp - £10.50 pp

Community

Over the last few years Southend Rugby Club has set out to promote and develop rugby in Southend. Aware that many schools in the town do not offer any opportunity to play tag rugby, the club made contact with head teachers and now has links with most local infant and junior schools.

The links with local schools and colleges benefit both parties. Schools and colleges are able to offer the rugby expertise and facilities of Southend Rugby Club while Southend Rugby Club benefits from growing membership.

Sponsorship

SRFC are one of the highest placed rugby clubs in Essex and in the top 60 clubs in the country. We get gates of 400-800 spectators per game and have over 1000 member's including 400 youth/family members also. As well as this we have a strong following from local and national businesses and get a good media following.
The programme is distributed FREE on entry to all spectators. In the current climate, it's important to continue to market your business but make every pound spent work as hard for you as it can.

Clubhouse Facilities

 
Following blood sweat and a few tears, the club has now obtained a Juke Box (speakers inside and outside) a fruit machine and a pool table. They also have a new look snug bar!
 
Further plans include more screens to watch sporting events etc and make part of the club more like a sports bar again so people choose to watch sport at the club.

The club house can also be hired out for parties and events.
