How safe is it to cycle in Barnet?

Cycling should be the ideal way to travel in the capital as it’s quick, inexpensive and healthy. Trouble is, it’s also one of the more dangerous ways to get around with the traffic and dangers caused by other road users and a cycle unfriendly road system.

As a result, though many people do take to two wheels to get around, many more are put off and the UK’s cycling population is lower than in many other countries.

Barnet Cycling Campaign wants to raise awareness of the difficulties for local cyclists attempting to cross the North Circular Road which bisects the borough.

They are organising a family-friendly protest , known as Barnet’s Great Divide Ride, on March 25 starting at 10.30am to protest at the lack of bike crossings on the North Circular.

The protest will be fully marshalled and will be a fun ride, the pace will be slow and it will be suitable for all ages.

It will start at New Southgate Railway Station and then zig-zag over all of the crossing points on the North Circular and it will finish around lunchtime with a picnic at the secret park in the centre of Staples Corner.
