Last day defeat means all change at Barnet FC

Barnet lost 0-2 in their final match of the season away at promotion chasing Northampton and with it lost their league status after a 9 year stay in the League.

It means that Barnet and their fans face three major changes in August when the new campaign begins.

They’ll be playing in the Conference and at their new stadium at the Hive, their training centre, after having to leave Underhill, their home for the past 106 years. And they will be leaving the borough as the Hive, 6 miles away in Edgware, is just across the borough border.

It was only last week that Barnet grabbed all 3 points in their commemorative farewell match at Underhill with a late goal and last minute penalty save against Wycombe which meant that a win in their final game could secure their league status.

But Barnet, well used to final day tensions, saw their great escape luck finally run out as Northampton ran out comfortable winners and AFC Wimbledon’s win over Fleetwood left Barnet in the bottom two and relegated on goal difference.
