Located in the heart of North Devon on the outskirts of Barnstaple, Portmore Golf Park is a genuinely friendly and welcoming golf club for both local members and day visitors who want to pay and play.

Their two golf courses are:

• Landkey - 9 hole par 3 golf course – a true test of accuracy and skills. Dress code – smart casual.
• Barum – 18 holes - 6289 yards - par 71 – a challenging golf course with 8 holes featuring water. Dress code – traditional.

There are full changing facilities all fitted with showers and toilets.

Portmore is a family-run business renowned for quality and service. Business owner Colin Webber has designed the centre to appeal to golfers of all abilities, and has provided excellent facilities to allow beginners to learn and enjoy the game and develop their skills to a higher level at Portmore.

The centre offers a 23-bay undercover, floodlit driving range with viewing facilities, a ‘proper’ putting and chipping green, a golf shop with a wide selection of golfing accessories, trolley hire facilities, regular professional golf tuition, and of course the clubhouse with attractive restaurant, bar and meetings rooms.

Portmore is also one of the most environmentally-friendly golf clubs in the country too. Colin and his team have worked hard to convert the site from a dairy farm to the successful golf club it is now, introducing a sustainable approach to water usage and carbon emissions that won them the Environmental Golf Club of the Year Award in 2010. You can see an abundance of wildlife around the course including deer, badgers, otters, kingfishers, herons, kestrels and buzzards

Not content with just improving the environment around the course, the team have also put on a variety of fundraising events and have raised over £10,000 for charities in the Barnstaple area.

Golf Tuition

Golf tuition is available at Portmore for both beginners and those wanting to improve aspects of their game. Andy Pye is a PGA Class 1 Professional and he offers a wide range of coaching, either on a one-to-one basis or in groups. Tuition is extremely affordable, for example 5 1hr group introductory course for beginners is just £25.

Golf tuition currently available includes:

• Beginners Course – Five 1-hour group sessions covering putting, chipping, pitching, bunkers and driving. A great, cost effective way to get you up and running, as well as being a good way to meet new people who are at the same level as yourself.
• Improvers Tuition – working on the short game area focusing on improving the touch around the greens and putting, or on the course looking at where you can save shots in your round.
• Swing Analysis - sessions on the driving range looking at your swing with the latest Gasp HS video analysis system which lets you look back at your swing in super slow motion at up to 1,000 frames per second.
• Junior Development Programme - available to any junior aged between 6 – 15 years. The aim of the programme is to give juniors a chance to learn and develop all aspects of the game in a fun and safe environment.
• Junior Members Coaching - Coaching sessions available to junior members every 2 weeks on a Saturday afternoon.

Andy is more than happy to provide one-to-one tuition on any aspect of golf so feel free to speak to him about any problems you have with your game.

Golf Driving Range

Portmore’s 23-bay driving range is modern, floodlit and undercover, with superb mats, the only Power Tees and matts in Devon and Topflite 3000 golf balls that are changed on a regular basis. The range is over 310 yards long and has targets at various lengths, plus you can have your swing analysed in the teaching studio to see where things aren’t quite right.

The range is open all day until 9pm in summer (5pm in winter) and clubs and balls are available for hire from just £3.00 for 50 balls. With the comfy clubhouse, bar and restaurant nearby the driving range is a great place to spend an hour or two letting off steam!

The Clubhouse Restaurant

The clubhouse at Portmore Golf Park is open to non-members at all times and has a lot to offer visitors, golfers and non-golfers alike.

The restaurant is renowned in the Barnstaple area for its Sunday carvery which features locally-sourced ingredients such as Exmoor beef, free-range local eggs, vegetables from Simmonds in South Molton, and potatoes from Griggs in Eastleigh.

If you prefer why not come for breakfast, or later on for a coffee and home-made cake, and enjoy the views from the terrace overlooking the course. Free car parking is available.

Party Venue, Wedding Venue & Meeting Rooms

The clubhouse at Portmore Golf Park has a variety of spaces which can accommodate up to 200 people, and is an ideal party venue for wedding receptions, birthday parties, anniversaries, business functions, christenings and more.

Set in a beautiful location close to Barnstaple and with stunning views over the manicured fairways, Portmore is a wonderful venue for any occasion.

The clubhouse function rooms are comfortable and stylish, whilst the patio and terrace area provide the perfect setting to relax, take in the views or take memorable wedding photographs.

There are three individual rooms which can be used individually or together:

• Main function room – accommodates up to 140 seated or 200 buffet, making an excellent wedding venue
• Range Room – accommodates 25-60 people, ideal for smaller parties
• Board Room – accommodates up to 20 people, perfect for business meetings or interviews

Flexible hire options can include a late bar, live music, hot or cold food, room decoration and anything else required, all at very reasonable prices.

Whether you have your day organised down to the last canape or you need advice about putting your function together, the staff are highly experienced and happy to help. Working to your budget, they can offer a wide range of catering options and help decorate the venue to create a traditional or a more relaxed ambience.
