Rock and Rapid are specialist providers of an exciting range of indoor rock climbing and outdoor pursuits, courses and expeditions in the UK and overseas. Their staff are experienced, qualified and licensed to lead you in many adventurous activities, from indoor climbing to diving, kayaking and rafting, and for all ages from school groups to adults.

The indoor climbing wall in South Molton, near Barnstaple, is the epi-centre of the business and the perfect place to start to discover the world of adventure sports and activities. Rock climbing is a wonderful sport for improving fitness and confidence, and the indoor wall makes it available all year round regardless of the weather.

Indoor Climbing Wall

If you’ve never climbed before, a short course at Rock and Rapid will have you roping on and climbing with confidence after a few hours. Experienced climbers can use the wall without an instructor, and can sign in other climbers under their supervision.

You can learn to climb at any age and Rock and Rapid offer a range of courses for both beginners and those looking to improve their skills, such as:

• Induction - This 1-hour course is ideal for those looking to get into climbing or parents wishing to introduce their children to climbing.
• Top Rope Improver – A 1-hour course teaching skills and tips that will help you to climb harder routes with less effort and more style.
• Learn to Lead – Move on from top-roping to lead climbing and take your climbing to the next level! This course is split into two 2-hour sessions to allow you to practice your skills between them.
• 4-Week Course – A complete beginner’s course, split into four 2-hour sessions, designed to take you through all you need to know to become a confident and competent indoor climber

Other courses are available, plus one-to-one tuition to help with specific aspects of climbing.

The climbing centre also has a boluder climbing room, soft play area for younger non-climbers, a cafe with wi-fi for older ones, and a shop where you can buy climbing gear and get the expert help you need to buy the right stuff.

Children’s Parties

Parents are always looking for something new for their children’s parties, and a climbing party at Rock and Rapid ticks many boxes: Fun, energetic, indoors to beat the weather, different, memorable and actually pretty cool! While the kids are being taught by an enthusiastic instructor, parents can relax in the comfy café, where post-climbing party food also can be provided.

Children’s parties have 1-hour and 2-hour options, plus a session for under-5s.

Outdoor Pursuits

Rock and Rapid is the place to go for outdoor pursuits in the Barnstaple and North Devon area. They have so many activities for you to choose from, from climbing and abseiling to kayaking, canoeing, surfing and coasteering, or you can do them all! From £35 per person for up to 3 hours and a minimum of 4 people with all equipment provided.
