Places of worship must be used at least six times a year. Priority is given to structural repairs that are urgently required within the next two years and that have been clearly identified and defined in a condition survey such as a Quinquennial Inspection report. Grants of between £10,000 and £250,000 are available.
From providing space for training services to hosting concerts and crèches, places of worship have an increasing role in everyday life. They are an important part of local and national heritage.
Applications go through a two-round process. This is so you can apply at an early stage of planning your project and get an idea of whether you're likely to receive a grant. Then you can send your detailed proposals. At the first round you can also ask for funding to develop your project.
The HLF must receive your first-round application and all supporting documents by:
Second-round submissions and supporting documents must be received up to 12 months after the first-round decision. They are assessed within three months, after which funding decisions are made.
