Typical festive Halloween activities include: trick or treating, attending costume parties, decorating and carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.
Today's Halloween customs are also thought to have been influenced by Christian dogma and practices derived from it. Halloween falls on the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallow's Day (also known as All Saints', Hallowmas or Hallowtide on November 1 an All Soul's Day on November 2, thus giving the holiday on October 31 the full name of All Hallows' Eve. These three days are collectively referred to as Hallomas and are a time for honoring the saints and praying for the recently departed souls who have yet to reach Heaven.
Halloween imagery includes themes of death, evil, the occult, and mythical monsters. Black, orange, and sometimes purple are Halloween's traditional colors.
