What Makes A Great Putting Surface? Turf Care Practiced By Portmore Golf

After a busy summer the greens are in need of care and attention because the turf roots get compacted and roots need space to grow.  In order for turf to remain healthy the root stock needs to grow deeper.

Aeration to the greens helps to achieve this with the removed plugs allowing air to the roots and better penetration of moisture.  Essential to the aeration process is top dressing (filling in the holes) with a sand and grass seed mix.

You can expect the green keepers to manage similar aerations and top dressing treatment in February/March, after the winter months.  This helps to prepare the turf in anticipation of warmer months and grass growth.
