British Science Week returns for 2022 between 11th – 20th March and is a celebration of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
STEM subjects are so important because they can give people the skills that make them more employable and attractive to employers. By studying STEM subjects you’ll learn and develop the skills and tools to help transform society, be creative, innovative and at the front of cutting-edge technology.
This year’s theme is Growth, and there are a range of fantastic activities looking at all sorts of growth, including buildings, eco-friendly behaviours, animals – even looking at how we could grow plants on Mars!
You can download the packs here: British Science Week Activity Packs and kids can take part at school or at home.
These packs are the perfect to use during British Science Week, but they are also available all year round too!
If you love reading, then you’re in for a real treat, as there are some amazing reads available in line with British Science Week, full of gaming, time travel, investigations, explosions, experimental clone studies, talking trees, a secretive guild of inventors and the escape of a lifetime!! These are available on BorrowBox now!
One of the aims of this event is to also smash stereotypes. When the word scientist or inventor is mentioned, you might automatically think of some wild white haired, lab coated, conical flask waving individual, but people that work in STEM sectors come from a wide range of backgrounds. For inspiration, there are collected stories from individuals and teams that will hopefully spark a change in perceptions of people and careers in STEM. You can find more about here!
There’s also a poster competition to take part in too! Using the theme ‘Growth’, why not have a go at designing your own poster for this year’s event? Your poster could explore a tadpole’s journey into a fully grown adult frog or look at the ways population growth is affecting the planet. You can find out more about how to take part in the poster competition here!
You can take part in British Science Week 2022 in so many different ways. Get involved, take part and immerse yourselves in these fascinating subjects – who knows where they will take you!!
