Local volunteers met the other week to launch the official “Friends of the Coronation Hall” – a support group that aims to support the iconic venue by promoting its events and generating funds through subscriptions and grant applications.

The Coronation Hall in Ulverston will be celebrating its centenary next year but needs urgent help to survive another 100 years!

The meeting was led by the 15-member committee which includes representatives of the hall’s regular users such as Ulverston Outsiders, Furness Tradition and the South Cumbria Music Festival.

Town councillor and committee member Colin Pickthall said encouraging young people to sign up would be the key to securing the Coro’s longevity.

“We need young people to help us with their enthusiasm and energy. That is why we have a young person’s membership which is pretty cheap.”

Ulverston Town Council is currently in negotiations with SLDC which could eventually see ownership of the Coronation Hall, Indoor Market and the town’s car parks pass to a charity or trust.

The friends aim to attract 400 members which will secure them an annual income of £5,000.

Membership is £12 a year for adults and £20 for families. Under-18s can join for £5.

Benefits will include a quarterly newsletter, discounts and booking preference on selected shows and invites to selected preview and events.

Application forms are available from the Coronation Hall in Ulverston or can be mailed out to you.
