Furness Tradition’s aim has always been to promote folk arts within the community, and this weekend sees their ever-popular two-day festival take place in Ulverston.
The weekend is packed full of folk music traditions with performances from a variety of incredibly talented singers, storytellers, musicians and traditional dancers. There are also some fantastic workshops taking place too.
So, if you want to experience the wonderful folk music traditions of Cumbria (especially Furness) then make sure you’re in Ulverston on 9th – 10th July. You’re in for a real treat!
Here’s what you can look forward to at this year’s Furness Tradition Festival:
Saturday 9th July
Watch the Festival's Dance sides parade from The Coro to the Market Cross Stage in the opening event.
Watch the Festival's Dance sides perform outside The Coro throughout the day, with a variety of traditional and regional dance styles on display.
Watch young people from Sir John Barrow School perform after working with international performance storyteller Dominic Kelly on stagecraft and techniques.
Hear Furness Tradition Festival acts unplugged and in a different light ahead of their performances at the Big Merry Neet, with acoustic sets from Alice Jones, Janice Burns & Jon Doran.
Enjoy intimate acoustic sets from Hannah Rarity, Bryony Griffith & Alice Jones ahead of their main-stage performances at the Big Merry Neet.
Try your hand at Sword Dancing, Ceilidh Dancing, Appalachian Stepping and Singing in a fun afternoon for all the family.
Learn the Cumberland Sword Jig with Tina Boyle in this hour-long workshop.
Featuring Tim Edey and other festival artists in concert, Canny Band as your dance band and caller Les Ord. This is where dance, music, song and stories all come together on three stages. Sample and celebrate all of the festival in one place for one big party.
Sunday 10th July
Learn to dance in the elegant Manx style with traditional Manx artists Perree Bane.
Watch the Festival's Dance sides perform outside The Coro throughout the day, with a variety of traditional and regional dance styles on display.
Send Furness Tradition Festival off in rousing fashion with performances from Tim Edey and The Canny Band.
