We live in an age where knowledge is, quite literally at our fingertips. Information, videos, songs, answers to all our questions are available at the tap of a keyboard or the touch of a screen.
To a lot of people, that’s just how life is, it’s fast moving and if you have the knowledge to access what you need, then life can be made a lot simpler and a lot more convenient – but if you don’t know how to, and your digital skills are not up to scratch – or maybe non- existent, then you can start to feel you’re being left behind.
According to Good Things Foundation, there are 4.3 million people in the UK who possess no basic digital skills.
That’s why they started the campaign – Get Online Week eleven years ago. This week long event has seen thousands of events taking place each year in communities across the UK, giving everyone the chance to find the help they need to improve their digital skills.
The mission for 2018 is for people to try one thing – do just one thing online as a stepping stone to improving their digital skills.
Get Online week runs from Monday 15th – Sunday 21st October and Barrow Library (a great place to learn how to do things online at any time of the year) has a week full of events, and helpful sessions for you to try.
From Smartphone help to advice and tips to navigating your way through apps and platforms on your laptop or PC – there’s always a friendly face to help show you how to make the most of your devices and feel more at ease with being online. Here’s what they have planned:
