Nobody wants to see their child in hospital over the festive season but it can happen.
Every year Bay Hospitals Charity works hard to make sure Christmas is as special as possible for every child at Furness General Hospital in Barrow and you can help by fundraising through the Elf Run.
Bay Hospitals Charity will be staging the family-friendly Elf Run on Sunday, December 1, at Hawcoat Park in Barrow.
All funds raised from this event will go to support Children’s Services at Furness General Hospital, making life a little better for little ones who need to spend time in hospital over the festive season.
The Elf Run is a wheelchair-accessible 5K route for all to enjoy. Why not sign up and go along in your favourite Christmas-themed outfit and run, stroll or jingle all the way at your own pace. You’ll also see Father Christmas who is looking forward to seeing his elves and giving out elf hats to everyone participating.
Nicola Askew, Associate Director of Nursing and Therapy for Children at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), said: “We are really excited to be holding our very first Elf Run to raise funds for Children's Services in Barrow.
"We have more than 1,000 children and young people admitted to our ward throughout the year and the funds raised from the Elf Run will help us to make sure their stay in hospital is as enjoyable as possible. We are currently looking at how we can improve our wards for teenagers.
“We have a great team of enthusiastic staff who have already signed up to run and we would like as many people as possible to take part. Please join in our festive fun and jingle along with us all on the 1st of December."
Registration will open on the day at noon and the Elf Run will set off at 1pm from Hawcoat Park in Barrow.
