Anybody who knows us knows that we’re ever so slightly obsessed with pugs; so when we were asked to be on the judging panel at Pugrock, held at Abbey Mill Café on Sunday – we jumped at the chance!
This was the second Pugrock event(the first was held at Barrow Park back in January) organised by event and wedding singer Becki Fishwick, with money raised on the day being split between St. Mary’s Hospice and Pug Charities.
We’d heard about how popular January’s event was, so we expected it to be busy. And we were not disappointed. To be perfectly honest we didn’t realise just how many pug owners there are in Furness. Owners from Whitehaven and Morecombe brought their pugs along too, on the day there were over 50 pugs that attended!
So we had the setting, we had the pugs; all we needed was the weather. We needn’t have worried; the sun shone all afternoon providing the perfect conditions for this wonderful event.
The afternoon started with what could only be described as an informal meet and greet, where all the pugs could mingle, make new friends and catch up with old pals over a treat and a bowl of water This was followed by a stretch of the legs with a lovely little walk before returning their owners for refreshments from the fabulous Abbey Mill Coffee Shop and the charity raffle.
The main event this year was the Pug Show. There were eight categories this year, and each one was full of wonderful entrants, but as with all competitions there could be only be one winner.
Cutest Pug puppy Under 1 year old (sponsored by Gas South Lakes) was won by Bob
Best Fancy Dress (sponsored by Herbalvitality 4 Life) was won by Brady who was resplendent as Beauty & The Beast
Best Trick (sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospice) was won by the hugely talented Hercules
Best Dressed Female (sponsored by Abbey Mill Café) was won by Lotty (as Madonna)
Best Dressed Male (sponsored by Larimar Property Management) was won by Ed
Funniest Face (sponsored by Becki Fishwick) was won by the gorgeous Winston
Special Recognition award went to Jane
Best in Show (sponsored by thebestof Barrow and Furness) was won by Hercules
It was an amazing afternoon, and so wonderful to see so many pugs and their owners turn up to this event. All the pugs looked fantastic; and judging them was a hard task and having to pick the top 3 in each category (let alone a winner) was incredibly tough.
Thank you to all the fantastic local businesses that sponsored Pugrock, you helped make it a real success!
We hope to have a Pug of our own later on this year (we’ve definitely got the pug bug) so you can be sure we’ll be returning for the next Pugrock !
We can’t wait!
