World Book Day returns for 2023 on Thursday 2nd March!
Since it was introduced in the UK back in 1997, World Book Day has encouraged children to explore the wonderful world of reading.
Reading is so important, and anything that inspires children to read for fun is fantastic. Not only does reading regularly increase your child’s vocabulary, it also improves their general knowledge and gives them a much better understanding of the world around them, and of other cultures too.
World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity for reading, discovering a love of books, sharing stories and also gives every child, regardless of background the chance to have a book of their own.
For many children access to books is a serious issue. It's a shocking statistic - but it's reported that 1 in 7 children said that the book that they 'bought' with their world book day coupon was the first book that they had owned.
This is one of the reasons why World Book Day is so important.
It's been proven that just 10 minutes a day of reading or sharing stories with children can make a massive difference to their future success - and it's so much fun too!
Please use these resources to share stories at home or in schools, nurseries, bookshops and libraries:
