You can’t beat the smell of freshly baked bread. It just grabs you by the nose and doesn’t let go!
That’s something that customers of the award winning Peace and Loaf Bakehouse can certainly testify to.
The bakery, based in Barrow Market Hall serves up a wide (and delicious) variety of artisan breads, cakes, pastries, hot food and drinks and recently won Cumbria Life’s 2017 Best Specialist Food Retailer Award at an award ceremony held at Kendal College.
These guys are seriously talented – for the record, I’m still drooling over photos of their amazing lemon meringue pies on their Facebook page!
Having successful, award winning, independent businesses on our doorstep is fantastic and something that needs to be encouraged. Proud Barrovian owners Lucas Hogg and Caroline Davis have built their business up, from baking on a Friday night and selling their wares on a Saturday morning to opening a bakery and producing delicious bread and cakes full time. This year however they’ve had the nightmare of being hit hard by huge business rate rises, meaning they’ve had to pay massive bills.
The business has had to give up its storage room, and money that had been saved up over the last two years that was earmarked for purchasing a new oven had to go towards paying the rates bill.
Lucas and Caroline are determined to stay in Barrow town centre, making sure they continue to look after their customers and make the business sustainable for years to come.
In order to carry on producing the bread, cakes and pastries you love, Peace and Loaf are looking to refit their existing kitchen and, although it means downsizing the bakery, making it smaller, it wants to be more productive, providing you with more tasty goods than ever before.
To do this they’ve set up a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money to help with the refit and buy a bigger more reliable oven.
This is your chance to get behind and support a fantastic local business. Our town needs businesses like Peace and Loaf to not just survive, but to flourish and grow, and with your help it’s possible.
