Exciting full programme details for this year’s Basingstoke Festival have been released, celebrating Art in Unusual Places across the borough.
It will launch in style on Friday 15 June with street theatre from The Dick Danger Show and L_VE Hangman outside the Willis Museum in Market Place.
There will be lots to do over the three weeks of the festival; why not go on an audio adventure with an app, design your own microbiome, follow an augmented reality or an art trail, search for / hide a Basingstone or engage with Scratchbuilt’s installation The Exchange?
Keep your eyes peeled for Kev Munday’s special selfie board and a Festival Place flashmob!
A number of these events will take place for the entire duration of the festival (until Sunday 8 July), ensuring that there is plenty of opportunity for residents to participate.
Don’t miss the fascinating Binaural Dinner Date, the hilarious Juglife, Fluid Motion’s pertinent All in the Mind Festival and Exit 6’s Guardians film screening. There are also lots of big names at Anvil Arts, including Strictly’s Kevin and Karen, Rufus Wainwright and Ballet Cymru.
Theatre-wise, take in some live Shakespeare, BU21, Revolution, The Band and Too Much to Bear, and if you’re a dance fan, you won’t want to miss the Ragroof Players’ Tea Dance, Happy Feet: 100 Years of Dance Crazes and Bill and Bobby, a performance which starts in a bath and goes on to pay tribute to the classic dancing partnerships of the silver screen.
Have a go at playing an instrument at The Musication Station, or why not sit back and listen to live music in Eastrop Park, the White Hart and the Tea Bar? The latter venue is also the location for Wild, Weird and Wonderful Tales…
The festival comes to a close with B LOVE, a jam-packed weekend of music across six stages – headlined by Reef and Wilkinson - plus an incredible range of family entertainment including the visually astounding Belly of the Whale from Ockham’s Razor and Zoielogic’s Ride (a performance centred around a Ford Orion), in addition to storytelling, arts, crafts, music workshops and a magical forest. Tickets for B LOVE are now on sale at www.blovemusic.com
