A Dickensian farrago summed up by its subtitle: Oliver Nicklefield’s Bleak Little Tale of Two Mutual Expectations. And son.
The Proteans are back together once again after a triumphant series of performances of Noel Coward’s Hayfever at the Walled Garden this Summer, this time turning them loose on dear old Charles Dickens!
Oliver Nickelfield embarks on a search for love, family and ‘glowing testimonials’. On his travels, Oliver encounters a curious bunch of characters including the reclusive Miss Haversack and her beautiful ward Dorabella, the eccentric acting troupe of Mr & Mrs Crumbles and his old schoolfriend turned lawyer Obadiah Snoop, amongst many others, whilst he blunders his way from Basingstoke to Australia via London Town.
Penned by Brendan Murray who brought you the Jane Austin spoof Mansfield Park and Ride (which the Proteans performed back in 2017), some of Dickens' most famous characters, from across his many tales, will share the stage together in this glorious send-up.
