On Saturday 11th May we were joined by The Rt. Hon. Don Foster MP to help launch the campaign in Larkhall and Chelsea Road. We met some local business owners who stepped outside on a busy Saturday morning for photos holding the Buy Local sign, the results you can see on our facebook page.
The main point of the Buy Local campaign is to get people to think Local first when buying goods or services, a sticker in a car or window is one way to remind people, but being thoughtful about how we spend can make an enormous difference to the local economy which benefits all of the local residents. We're not saying you have to accept less value either by buying local, we're just reminding people not to overlook the great local businesses underneath our noses. They can provide briliant value but still be possibly overlooked because of louder national brands.
A great example of this might be Moss of Bath, the TV/HIFI retailer and installers who provide a free 5 year guarantee on their TVs and price match John Lewis, who as we all know, through TV advertising only big companies can afford, are never knowingly undersold! There, point made!
Over the next weeks leading up to Buy Local Week June 3rd, thebestofbath will be gathering photos of many residents and local business people showing their support, we will be asking for Pledges of support on postcards distributed to the local High Streets and also online soon (Like us on Facebook to find out how to pledge your support shortly). We will also be displaying posters about the campaign in local shops, giving out window and car stickers, distributing Buy Local branded Bags for Life, running giveaways for those that pledge their support, and even putting up some bunting! If you'd like to get hold of a I Love to Buy Local sticker for your car or business, and we haven't got to you yet, let me know by email to bath@thebestof.co.uk and we'll try to drop one in. Or if you'd like to get involved in some way, get in touch by email or call me on 07766705839 James Tribe, thebestofbath
