Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help.
"It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
And so why am I blogging about this on thebestofBedford website...Well because one of the best businesses in Bedford, The White Horse, held a very successful fundraising day last year in aid of the Help for Heroes charity, raising £21,000, and they are holding another fundraising event this year in May.
So far there is a fantastic music programme, including local and professional musicians from 1pm to midnight. There will be a barbeque or hogroast, an outside bar, tombola and raffle, an auction of sporting memorabilia of sports people with a Bedfordshire connection, and a car wash. Also Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will bring a fire engine for children (and adults) to see. There is still plenty of time for more events to be planned. This promises to be a very exciting event, and in a very good cause!
Would you like to get involved? Do you have any fundraising ideas? All gifts, prizes and sponsorship will receive full credit and publicity. Nigel and Sue at The White Horse hope to involve local press, television and radio as well as publicising the event and all its supporters on their website, newsletter and in-house TV's.
If you or your company are interested, please let Nigel and Sue know. You may either...
And finally don't forget to say that you saw this on 'thebestofbedford' website!!
