I have noticed that it is now more expensive to park at the Riverside Square in the evening than it is during the day.
Where's the logic?
I can understand charging for parking during the day - it discourages congestion and encourages use of the Park-and-Ride facilities.
But parking in the evening?
Do we have a rush of vehicles into town as daylight fades?
Are the theatre, the restaurants and the bars over-crowded and under-staffed?
Is it intended to discourage binge drinking by pushing up associated costs?
Perhaps the commercial return from very high parking charges at the nearby railway station has gone to the heads of those responsible for setting the town centre parking tariff.
However, with money being spent to make Bedford a thriving local centre it seems bizarre that someone, somewhere, has decided to counter those measures with a financial penalty for drivers.
Is this joined-up government at work?
