For my first blog entry I think that it will probably be appropriate baring in mind the timing to mention the event at Lake meadows on 24th and 25th July this year.
I have 2 problems with this event. Why Katherine Jenkins? Because unless I am mistaken she is welsh and has probably never been to Basildon let alone Billericay so it does seem to appear strange to invite her to perform for the 60th Anniversary. In my opinion it would make more sense to have chosen a performer/s who have got connections with Basildon town. Not that I am being impartial but baring in mind my age group, Depeche Mode or Alison Moyet would have been more of an appropriate choice. Also why Billericay? Isn’t this meant to be celebrating Basildon, and I know from reading an article in the Basildon Echo recently, I am not alone with this feeling. I want to end on a positive note though. The council could have sat on their Loral’s and done nothing so some celebration is better than nothing.
