Ballet Black is a wonderful dance show that works your mind and imagination. It uses the element Ballet to create a storyline which tells the audience the struggles people of colour and culture have to face. It's raising awareness of society. The talented and elegant dancers portray this storyline by their passion of dance and emotion.

At the beginning of this performance there's a talented dancer portraying happiness which is shown through her dancing, but as soon as the beat drops, performers are fighting over the crown. I was wondering if it shows the generation of royalty? But the more you watch the more you begin to realise the crown doesn't symbolise royalty at all.

Violent relationships are shown which is representing the bad relationships black people were in and were suffering day in and day out. This may be with love, friendship or between strangers showing how wrongly they were treated. Love and death is also shown between two people.

There are things that hold you back from life but also things that keep you going and pushing through the hard times, this was clearly demonstrated by the dancers.

Many people of colour feel trapped and imprisoned. This is shown in the performance where a girl is trying to escape this cage surrounded by dancers, stopping her from getting through. This cage became smaller and smaller. But soon she regains courage with the help from others and this cage that once suffocated her became bigger and she could finally regain her freedom. This is showing if we work as a team, no one is too small to make a change and change how society treats other people. No one is too small to do what's right. This is perfectly illustrated by these talented dancers.

A crown holds a big part in this performance. In my opinion, the crown represents: freedom, it represents friendship, love, courage, it also represents to be united. How courage can crumble and destroy many people and how hard it is to gain the courage that you once lost.

It was really interesting to see the use of the mirrors. It was so creative that the royal person was looking at themselves in the mirror longing for society to change.

We were introduced by the comedy aspect at the end. It was so uplifting and exciting. Eventually, we even get to see a bit of acting while the dancers are in their dressing room having a pep talk and getting ready for the show. The theatre lights were brought up on the audience, which made us feel like we were part of the story. They were showing us what their life can be like if we change how society sees people of different cultures. It was phenomenal.

These dancers are just simply amazing, they have amazing technique, illustrating clear and powerful emotions. Your eyes will be glued to the dancers the whole performance. Wondering what will happen next? What are they trying to illustrate in this dance? Your imagination will run wild.
