David Aston, an Explorer Scout t Leader with the Tame Valley District has been awarded his Medal of Merit Award for Services to Scouting

Presented by his District Commissioner Geoff Shuttleworth at the recent Tame Valley Annual General Meeting, this award represented over 30 years of David's dedicated service to Scouting in Birmingham.


David  has been involved in Scouting and Guiding with a number of groups within the Tame Valley, Sutton Coldfield and Spitfire District since 1986, working as a Brownie Helper , Assistant Cub Scout Leader, Venture Scout Leader and Explorer Leader and would also give support to any event within those Districts and the County of Birmingham.

David  was chosen for the award for all his dedication over the years and continues to support young people across Birmingham and hopes to expand this into his professional life as he is training to be a Primary School teacher with The University of Wolverhampton and has shown great enthusiasm whilst working on placement at Abbey Primary Catholic School in Erdington and wishes to continue within this profession when he qualifies in 2 years time.

David Added "That personally awards are not something I do Scouting for, I do it to encourage and develop skills within our local youngsters, but it is fantastic to have been selected for such an award. To anybody who has any spare time then volunteering at your local Scout Group is a brilliant way to see youngsters develop and give something back to your local community”.

Birmingham Scouts is working with over 7,600 young people throughout the city and in the Great Barr areq from many faiths and backgrounds, supported by over 2,200 volunteers such as David, helping 6-25 year olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active citizens for the future….
