The Digbeth Art Space in Birmingham are proud to be  hosting a stunning exhibition  between 9th October - 2021 - 31st October 2021.  The exhibition is organised by "Handcrafted Uniquely" and is an art collective of professional artists that has been going for almost a decade and brings together carefully selected and incredibly talented artists from around the world.

The title of the exhibition is "Becoming Other" and in this multi-discipline exhibition artists are bringing together an art extravaganza of decidedly dark and mysterious pieces in a variety of different media and techniques on the theme of Metamorphosis - Becoming Other.  They are reflecting on change and the journey of one thing into something "else".

One of the artists is Stef Butler who is the creator behind Agni Prasada Burning.  She is based in Shropshire where she draws inspiration from her surroundings and home life as well as her love for all things macabre and gothic.  She is a full time artist and specialises in freehand original pyrography and ink work.

"A huge part of my design process is selecting character woods that help to influence my creations" she said about her exhibition, Retaliation parts 1 and 2  "with their natural beauty and flaws.  Inspired by the concept of metamorphosis, these pieces show the transformation of humans into their spiritual manifestation, creating Dryad entities.

A hybrid of tree and human elements their branches reach out and penetrate our world.  The trees are taking back their rightful space in the environment, humans are a cause of many issues in today`s world.  Are they here to protect us or destroy us?"

Jo Burgess is another featured artist and graduated with a first in BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles and a distinction in MA Applied Arts.  She now works under the creative banner "Patternorium" and is active in a variety of art/craft platforms and projects, including organising and participating in exhibitions, creating public artworks and events, delivering workshops and is also a part time lecturer.

Jo is the owner and creative designer behind Patternorium the Surface Pattern company with a Victorian Gothic aesthetic and gorgeously unique luxury home decor products.  "All products are hand drawn " she explained "and hand made.  Design inspiration comes from folk horror and dark fairytales, Victorian mental and physical health practices, the life and death cycle and the beauty in the macabre."

Jo`s exhibition is The Seasons Stalk and Shift which explores the cyclical nature of life and death and our relationship with the flow of life force in the natural world.  "Taking influence from folk tales and rituals of death and rebirth" she explained "my work uses detailed, haunting imagery that merges plant and animal matter to illustrate the concept of transmutation of energy through the personification of the changing of the seasons.  These artworks are created with hand-drawn elements combined with photographs of dead and decaying petals to suggest the wings of insects."
