Angela L. Garratt is the author of Innocent Spirits, The Ghost of Henry Schneiber, Black Shoes and her first published collection of poetry called Cold is the Night. She is currently working on her second collection of poems which is to be called 'Courage.'

She started writing in her teenage years with non-fiction, then she went on to make the switch between non-fiction to fiction at the age of thirty-one, shortly after the death of her father. She now has a multitude of different stories and poems in magazines, anthologies and E-zines all over the world. Angela is currently studying for a combined BA Hons degree in English Literature and Creative Writing through the Open University and is an experienced editor and publisher. She is at the moment gaining experience in Ghost writing.

The Oldbury Writing Group

Angela is the founder and leader of the Oldbury Writing Group (OWG), this group started on the 22 August 2014. She founded the group after experiencing the loneliness of writing her first novel.  She says, 'Our family and friends love us dearly, but they don't always understand what we do and why we do it. Sometimes we writers just can't get the support we need to write, I know I didn't. Once I published my book, Innocent Spirits, I started the OWG to help support those who may need help, guidance and/or just someone to talk to openly about their writing endeavours.  We give positive constructive feedback to anyone who would like to read out a piece of their work.'
The OWG published their first book together, From Sunset to Sunrise, in 2015 to commemorate the end of WW2. They are currently in the process of putting together their second anthology of poems and short stories which is to be called, 'Naked Words and Empty Cages.' This is to be published around September 2019. From Sunrise to Sunset can be purchased from Amazon or any other online book retailer.
Earlier this year, the OWG featured in the February Edition of Writing Magazine. This helped the OWG to gain new members and in turn they have been able to help other people through their writing experiences.

Poets Against Racism

Angela is a supporter of other charities and organisations such as Poets Against Racism (PAR).  Earlier this year Angela performed with PAR at the Wolverhapton Arena Theatre (as part of the Wolverhampton Literature Festival), and has recently performed with PAR at the Rock the Beacon Music and Food Festival, at Barr Beacon on both the 3rd and 4th August 2019. There are many members of PAR and Angela is proud to be included with such a fantastic group of people. She says, 'There is so much talent between all of the members of PAR. Individually, PAR members include Poet Laureates, poets nominated to be a poet laureate, published writers and people with a passion for the written and spoken word. We go out and run a whole catalogue of different events, or we support events ran by other poets and musicians, but when we get together, we create a backbone so strong that it could never render. PAR is an incredible way of getting our word of peace and love about.'  To find out more about Poets Against Racism visit PoetsAgainstRacism.com

Wildlife Photography

Angela is also an award winning wildlife photographer.  The natural world has captured her imagination since she was a small child watching the wildlife in her own back yard. She says, 'I used to lie in the kitchen floor just to watch how the cat (Tiger) eats. The way he sliced his food with his back teeth fascinated me. I went on the study wildlife as a hobby for many years and at the age of 21 I finished my first manuscript, 'Wildlife in Colour,' I drew my own illustrations. I never did get this book published, I never tried, I suppose I didn't really class myself as a writer back then.' Angela started taking photos of different species when mobile phones started having cameras attached to them. She now has an upcoming exhibition at the West Bromwich Arts Café in December 2019. More information will be posted about the dates so watch this space.
