A platform of people from Birmingham have come together to defend the rights of EU Migrants.  Known as Stand Up To Racism Birmingham it has united people locally, in work places, community groups and faith groups together with Carl Chin MBE and 4 Members of Parliament - Jack Dromey MP, Preet Gill MP, Roger Godsiff MP and Khalid Mahmood MP.   Councillors in support are Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, John Cotton, Kerry Jenkins, Majid Mahmood, Lou Robson, Martin Straker Welds and Lisa Tricket  together with trade union leaders and anti-racist activists.

"Sadly", explained Councillor Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, hatred, bigotry and intolerance are on the rise and, left unchecked, that rise can have violent and tragic consequences.  It`s absolutely essential that we stand together to counter the rising tide of racism and xenophoboia.  This is not an issue of Leave or Remain.  Nor should it be a matter of party politics.  This is a question of common decency and we must unoite to defend the rights of EU Migrants - our friends, colleagiues, p[artners and neighbours".

SUTR Birmingham invites everyone who wants to end the  hostile environment to join them at 7pm on 8th October at The Priory Rooms, Bull street for a forum addressed by local politicians and community leaders.

This move is to guarantee the legal status of all EU Migrants living in the UK following the statement, "Defend EU Migrants", which was printed in the Guardian on 5th September and signed by Diane Abbott, Lord Dubs and many more.
