Local Steampunk author Jon Hartless will be at the Raising Steam Festival, Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club, Bromsgrove, on Saturday 21st May.
Jon, the writer behind the Poppy Orpington racing series, will be doing a live reading in the activity tent at around 1pm.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with old friends from the Steampunk community, as well as hopefully meeting some splendid new types as well,” noted the author. “
The last Raising Steam event was a great success, involving an eclectic mix of acts and artists, and this year looks as though it will be both bigger and better. Which is excellent news for the charity New Futures Nepal, which is busy raising funds to aid communities in Nepal, as well as helping disabled and disadvantaged children of Kathmandu.
“I’ve not decided what I’ll be reading from yet,” Jon added. “My Poppy Orpington books examine the gulf in opportunity between the wealthy and the poor, but they also feature numerous racing scenes for younger readers, while my Romanticism Lost is a farcical Steampunk parody of nineteenth century Gothic classics such as Dracula, the Phantom of the Opera, Sherlock Holmes etc, and may appeal to an older crowd. So I’ll see who wonders into the reading marquee on the day and take it from there.
“I’m sure it will be quite in tents.”
