A local poet and playwright is scheduled to perform at the Raising Steam Festival between 19 - 22nd May 2022 for charity.
Ian Henery, whose play "The Chinese Labour Corps" featured in a successful week-long run at The Blue Orange Theatre in Birmingham in February and was part of Chinese New Year Festival Online 2022, will be performing at Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club in Bromsgrove to help empower disadvantaged children and adults in Nepal. He will be joining other authors, poets, musicians and storytellers.
All funds raised will go to support the work of New Futures Nepal (NFN), a small UK charity which supports disabled and disadvantaged youngsters in Kathmandu as well as supporting communities further out in the mountainous villages of Nepal.
"The four day festival is a smorgasbord of entertainment" explained organiser Steven C Davis "from local authors, poets and storytellers including Jon Hartless, Brendan Hawthorne, Sarah Battison, Angie Angel, Laura Jane Round, Tina J Cox, Ian Caddie and Susan Vickers supported by The Curious House of Stories and their storytelling yurt".
There will be fiery entertainment from St John le Fox, shamanic drumming as well as a selection of the finest steampunk and alternative musicians around with a market and workshops.
Steven C Davis, festival organiser, is a trustee of New Futures Nepal (registered charity number 1142984) and he has seen first-hand the difference the charity makes to the lives of some of those who most need help.
"There will also be Berlin gothic cabaret band Feline and Strange headline the Thursday evening", said Steven "and Coventry-based dark- wave Attrition headline the Friday night. Space rockers Krankschaft headline the Saturday evening show which also includes Walsall`s finest Martian Social Club, music hall entertainment and an Elvira tribute show".
There`s also the launch of loads of debut novels and live theatre including Count Rostov, Cthulhu-esque theatrical entertainment from Hopless, Maine - and more! Tickets are available fromraisingsteam.bandcamp.com.
