Located on the Bullring’s middle level, the 580 sq ft space offers a relaxed dining ‘Feel Good Mex’ menu, with a focus on fusion flavours and modern superfood ingredients which gives a contemporary twist on freshly prepared Mexican favourites such as burritos, bowls, tacos and nachos.

Unique to Zambrero is its social value initiative, ‘Plate 4 Plate’, whereby for every burrito or bowl purchased, a meal is donated to someone in need through its partner, Rise Against Hunger. Zambrero has delivered over 78.5 million meals internationally to date through the scheme and now Birmingham locals can help support Zambrero’s goal of donating 1 billion Plate for Plate meals by 2025.

This ethos aligns with Hammerson’s own social value and social impact goals which saw Hammerson introduce initiatives including a partnership with mental health charity Mind - creating a wellbeing drop-in centre at Bullring, offering support and raising awareness of mental health.

The Green Apple Environment Award, which saw Bullring and Grand Central recognised for its exceptional recycling and waste management programme.

The opening of Zambrero – a portfolio first – follows a series of new high-profile openings of retail, social and dining brands available at Bullring and Grand Central.

Recent openings include EL&N Café, the ‘most instagrammable café in the world’, while Pop Street will add a street-food style concept when it opens later this year.

These restaurant openings provide new and exciting reasons to visit the destination and complement the existing entertainment offers such as Sandbox VR and TOCA Social - which will open this summer along with high-profile stores such as Zara which is upsizing to 51,000 sq ft, reaffirming the quality and location of Bullring.

Toby Tait, director of Asset Management at Hammerson, added: “The opening of Zambrero reaffirms our strategic focus to target new and exciting brands, concepts and entertainment. In turn, attracting and exciting new audiences and engaging our visitors.

“We are excited to be introducing a brand which has a strong social value ethos and which is an important consideration amongst our customers and communities.”

Emily Teh, UK chief executive officer at Zambrero, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening in the Bullring, which is such a vibrant destination in the heart of Birmingham and are looking forward to being a part of the local community.

“We’re excited to be introducing modern Mexican food to The Bullring so customers can enjoy freshly prepared meals that are made just the way they like it.

“And by simply enjoying our food, customers will also be supporting our mission to help end world hunger through our Plate 4 Plate initiative.”
