This year has been particularly difficult for everyone with all the things we take for granted suddenly disappearing. As theatres slowly emerge from the shadow of this epidemic The Old Rep Theatre are looking forward to once again opening their doors and welcoming back audiences old and new to experience the joy and magic that only live theatre can bring.
The Old Rep had hoped to bring audiences their production of Beauty and the Beast this
Christmas, postponed from Christmas 2020, but due to multiple lockdowns and the time lost in the venue for them to create this particular set and costumes they are having to revise their Christmas production.
This Christmas the theatre will be replacing Beauty and the Beast with the favourite
children’s story Alice in Wonderland. The production will run from Saturday 20th
November – Friday 17th December 2021, performance times vary. This will mark the sixth Christmas production that The Old Rep have produced alongside Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA).
Their Christmas production follows the story of Alice, a young, curious girl who follows a
white rabbit down a rabbit hole and into Wonderland. There, she encounters some of the
strangest and most peculiar creatures, including the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. With songs old and new by Steve Allan Jones, a brand-new script by Toby Hulse and a talented cast of 25 student performers from BOA. Alice in Wonderland is set to be a spectacular experience that we hope will be enjoyed by all the family.
Michael Penn, Executive Director of The Old Rep Theatre said: “I cannot wait to hear the
laughter, see the smiles and experience the joy that our Christmas productions bring to so many once again. We all need something magical at Christmas and Alice in Wonderland is sure to delight, amaze and entertain, so come and visit The Old Rep and enjoy live theatre once again!”.
Tickets are now on sale. For further information about Alice in Wonderland, please call the theatres Box Office on 0121 359 9444 (Please note: reduced hours are in place, visit their website for opening times) or book via oldreptheatre.co.uk (online booking fee applies).
