Coming in first is Her Majesty, Queen Camilla. Praised for her devotion to not just her dogs, but to dogs across the UK and abroad, Camilla has gracefully earned the crown with an impressive majority, claiming over a third of the votes.
Following a close second is singer-songwriter and actress, Leona Lewis. Leona was celebrated for her commitment to ‘giving a greater voice to those who can’t speak for themselves’ through campaigning for animal rights.
The final three celebrities are Jodie Prenger, Beverley Knight and Ruth Langsford – all of whom were recognised for their love and devotion to dogs, especially rescue dogs.
The survey was commissioned by the Midland’s oldest and most loved animal welfare charity, Birmingham Dogs Home, to celebrate dog mums ahead of Mother’s Day.
Following a challenging start to the year with desperate owners abandoning their dogs outside the charity’s gates, the charity has reached maximum capacity with over 200 dogs residing in its kennels.
To help spread awareness, the charity will be attending Crufts where visitors can learn about adoption and sponsoring a kennel. Attending the stand today is proud Brummie and Birmingham Dogs Home ambassador, PJ Ellis.
Fi Harrison, head of Fundraising and Communications at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “This timely survey, to celebrate Mother’s Day, is a light-hearted way for us to celebrate the incredible dog mums out there and remind people of the joys of adopting dogs. It is a fun way to highlight a serious topic and the challenges we are facing in the rescue sector.
“There is no sign of the number of homeless dogs needing our help slowing down, so we are hugely grateful to everyone who chooses to adopt and to the lovely ladies who have been nominated through our survey and who choose to use their platforms to share their rescue stories and encourage others to do the same.”
