In years gone by, Bishop's Stortford's Christmas lights being switched on has always been a pretty modest affair.
But 2012 marks a change, with Bishop's Stortford Town Council announcing that it is in the midst of organising a two hour celebration to be held in North Street.
On Thursday November 15th 2012, all ages will be invited to come along from 3:30pm to enjoy the spectacle and enjoy a wide range of entertainment that is sure to please the whole family.
James Parker, Council chief executive explained, “It's the first time we have done a proper lights switch on event and we are hoping to build in it in years to come.”
Stars of this year's Rhodes pantomime, Cinderella will also be in attendance at the event. After his highly successful 2011 production of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, Rhodes Art Programmer and Director of Phoenix Theatre School, Phil Dale, is producing the classic fairytale, which will be running from December 15th 2012 until January 15th 2013.
As Phil comments: “Our first two pantos are probably more popular with boys so I am looking forward to bringing the magic of the greatest fairy story of all time to Rhodes.”
"Of course we’ll have all the elements you’ll expect such as a beautiful Cinderella, two Ugly Sisters and a handsome Prince. However, as always there will be some surprises. The transformation of the mice and the pumpkin into a coach and horses is always something to look forward to.”
