BT are looking for councils to adopt their iconic "Jubilee" red public pay phones as part of a dismantling programme which would see the iconic phone boxes - without phone - adopted by parish councils, for the nominal fee of £1. The councils would then look after the boxes in the future.
Parish councils are being urged to respond to a consultation BT is carrying out at the beginning of January. Although some of the kiosks are used occasionally, some of the boxes in Great Sampford, Littlebury Green and Little Bardfield have not been used within the last 12 months.
For more information, visit www.uttlesford.gov.uk/phoneboxes to see which boxes are affected and find out more about BT’s " adopt a kiosk " programme.
Let us hear your views about this new consultation. Do you think this is a great initiative to keep the red boxes as part of the village fabric or are you concerned about the loss of the public phones?
