Stayed here on business and it was an ideal place for a nights sleep. The hotel was very loud but that was down to a wedding ongoing in the reception area of the hotel. I was disturbed a few times during the night from people who had overindulged, but that can't be the fault of the hotel.

My room was massive, and on the corner of the hotel which I think helped. It was quiet and was just what I needed. Breakfast the next morning was great and extensive.

Check-in and check-out were hassle free and the female trainee was excellent. If her badge hadn't have told me to her lack of experience I wouldn't have known, which is testament to her and the hotel really.

I'd recommend this hotel, especially for the price I paid to stay on a Friday night.

we had our daughters weddiing here and stayed overnight . the room that we had the wedding in was fantastic for a wedding, they have kept part of the old church when they built it, I would recomend this room for a wedding. the food was very good and served piping hot. the drinks was a little expensive but they alwas are at these sort of places.
Our room that w stayed in was realy spacious and we was pleased with it
Our room cost £70 with breakfast but another couple who attended the wedding managed to get thier room for £38 with breakfast by getting a special deal on the internet
Food at breakfast was also very good (serve yourself) all in all we had a realy good day.
I know the area very well if anyone has any questions. John

Comfortable sleep, clean rooms, though somewhat "tired", disability friendly inside, but not from a parking perspective and entrance into hotel. Breakfast was good, enjoyed that, but not the service. Will stay there again, when we need a quick functional stay over, as it serves it's purpose as a hotel and it's cheap, but I wouldn't stay there if I wanted a short city break/holiday.

I stayed in this hotel for one night in early April. A number of things concerns me. The bedroom itself is very basic, in need of decoration and improvement. However, the bed was comfortable and I got a reasonable nights sleep. With regard to Kates room, the food was average but the time it took to come was ridiculous. This seemed to have been a problem between the waiting staff and the kitchen. However, this meant I had to wait over an hour from where I want to get some work done. All said and done I would rate this hotel as big average

Having stayed in holiday inns before, but ones in city centres I wasn't to sure what to expect... I had no reason though to have worried.
On arrival hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly, we got checked in and made our way to our rooms the hotel was spotless! Once in the room the room again was spotless! An average size room for a holiday inn...
Breakfast in the morning was buffet style all very warm and fresh the restaurant staff could t do enough to help, even made fresh omelettes if you wanted! Overall very pleased with our stay.

writing review whilst still sat in my room... Staff very friendly and efficient but facilities let it down. Poor food and very uncomfortable beds!! Only saving grace is the power shower! Car parking spaces also only suitable for a mini!

Just as it was at the beginning of our stay, let me get the worst part over with: parking (where is this not an issue center city in England, though?). We struggled to find parking/access, then were sent to a convenient outside car park across the street. Perhaps it was a struggle because it was late after a long drive. Still, I've visited many hotels with easier access. Suggest pulling up at front drive and not bothering to try to find the hotel car park/s.

The hotel itself was quite lovely, if you like modern updated and upgraded old buildings. It keeps the beauty and some quirks of the original design but is outfitted with modern conveniences.

We had a lovely and quirky room at the top of the building. It was laid spacious and very comfortable. The bath/shower area was surprisingly lush, large, nice. We slept comfortably and heard no outside noises.

Breakfast was pretty standard for hotel breakfast buffet: nothing to rave about, but no complaints either. Food was plentiful and the service was efficient.

The departure time is pretty early, which stands out for us because we were accompanying my husband on a business trip and would have liked to stay a little longer since it was wet and rainy outside, but this was not possible.

Overall, the service here is efficient, not warm or friendly. This is fine, but not especially memorable. The food was not memorable. But our room was quite charming and made the whole stay worth remembering.

We had a very comfortable stay, room was comfortable and clean. This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel as we visit family in Bolton and is very conveniently located and staff are friendly.

The location of the hotel is great if you need to ship in Bolton town centre.. At the time of our visit there was a wedding taking place and therefore the very limited car parking spaces were all taken. it would have been helpful if this was flagged up at the entrance. As it was we needed to abandon the car by the car park exit barrier and make enquiries at Reception. We were given a voucher for a local, unmanned public car park from where we need to haul our luggage etc.
The staff at the hotel, despite being busy at the time were friendly and helpful.
The room was adequately furnished but was showing its age and signs of heavy usage. Definitely time for serious refurbishment/modernisation. There was a lack of any information as to the hotels amenities, opening times etc.
The leisure club reflected the general tiredness of the establishment where some basic facilities simply failed to work.

Staff all seemed friendly but general decoration and rooms all look a bit old and worn. Attended a dinner function in nice large space although service a bit hit and miss. Breakfast very average with strange tasting sausage's and not much fruit.

Needed a hotel really close to the town centre and for location this was a great choice. The staff at the reception were really friendly and very attentive. The rooms are old and in need of a refurb, our bath panel had been removed and never replaced and the basin had a crack in it. Just ;looked really shabby. The bed was hard and the mattress had clearly seen better days. However move out of the room back downstairs and the staff are great..nothing is to much hassle or trouble for them!..the food from the restaurant was very good...well done to the staff, good customer service must be within the DNA of the hotel.

As an IHG Platinum member (show off!) I stay in quite a few Holiday Inns but this was my first time at the one in Bolton. A lot of positives - the reception staff were very friendly at check-in, the room was nicely equipped and clean, the bathroom nice (with a bath rather than just a shower) and - hooray - the wifi worked!
Had a meal in the bar which was fine and ate breakfast the following morning and had a great choice from the buffet.
Downsides (for me at least) - the location wasn't the nicest and I was little concerned to see broken glass in the hotel car park.
But overall, it was a very pleasant stay and perfect for one night.

The staff at the Holiday Inn Bolton were friendly, helpful and efficient. the breakfast was excellent and there was plenty of it! the room was well appointed and warm. We ate in the bar one evening and both enjoyed our meals which we found competitively priced. all in all the Hotel is a good example of a chain Hotel.

I wavering between 4 and 5*....

Staff is fantastic, food at breakfast was very good - you cannot beat kippers and poached eggs!

Drinks seemed quite pricey but it's a 4* hotel.

Room was fine, excellent shower and towels to die for so big and fluffy.....I did want to pack about four into my suitcase but it was not big enough.

No complaints really and if you go to Bolton, I'd say stay here.

Best wishes,

I was visiting Bolton for work and had a good night’s sleep at the Holiday Inn, which is centrally located with free underground parking. The reception staff were lovely and helpful and the room with a decent size and very clean with a bath (I do love having a bath when away)! The water was hot and the towels were soft – so far so good.

That was, until I went down for dinner. When I arrived at the onsite restaurant, I waited for almost 5 mins to be seated with no sign of the server (the receptionist eventually came and sat me down and took my drinks order). I should say now that when I entered there were only two other dinners and when I was there another party of 3 or 4 came in - so she was hardly overworked. Oh, and the restaurant was freezing, which was one of the main topics of conversation with all who entered (although apparently the heaters were on…).

Anyway, the food. After eventually coming to take my order, I opted for one of the ‘large plates.’ Being a vegetarian, my options are always a little limited but I’m totally fine with that and being particularly hungry the though of a large plate of pasta sounded too good to be true. However, an anything but large plate arranged, which was devoured in a few minutes. It then took, and I timed, 18 minutes for the server to come and clear my plate. A dessert of Crème Brule was hastily order, which, when it came was soft and gooey on the top. I sent it back and asked for a new one. 10 minutes later I was told that it was off the menu but I could try anything else. Eventually the manger came over to apologise and to explain that the chef didn’t have a blow torch but instead had put it under the grill… He was lovely and took my glass of wine off the bill. He did ask if I wanted another dessert but as I’d been in the restaurant for over an hour for one moderately sized main course at £13 I decided that my hunger was too great and nipped next door for a pizza – which was lovely!

Sorry to be so negative but that level of service is unacceptable, although I probably shouldn’t have been surprised given the number of people dinning in!

Typical Holiday Inn public areas look good and have been updated recently. My room (101) has not been, bathroom is particularly poor and looks extremely dated.

The biggest issue here is the, albeit pleasant, smell of breakfast flooding the room at 6am! Didn't like it especially as it embedded itself on my suit and is likely to require dry cleaning! Avoid room 101!

All in all, the location is good, staff are polite and welcoming despite my late arrival. I would stay again but would request a room that doesn't suffer from the smell.

Great customer service from the staff, as i felt they were friendly and flexible. Breakfast taste great and there were good variety on the menu. Wasn't so keen on the bed. I would have preferred the kingsize bed we asked for to have a kingsize mattress rather than two single mattresses put together. They advertised the hotel as having free WiFi but I was disappointed to find out that one could not use the free WiFi in the comfort of their own rooms. However our two nights stay there was enjoyable overall.

I visit Bolton regularly on business and this hotel is well located in the heart of the town.

On previous visits I have encountered noisy rooms on the 1st floor with constant banging of doors into the earlier hours. I raised this issue and the manager was very keen to discuss my concerns.

As I'm only staying for 1 night I decided to try it again and requested a room on another floor. Today I'm on the 4th and it seems a lot quieter.

I normally eat in the hotel as tired after a 5 hour trip and find the atmosphere a bit depressing with most clients eating on expense accounts.

I find the menu on the expensive side and food only in the middling range. They normally have 2 servers, one very experienced and friendly but they seem pushed if the restaurant has a lot of single tables. I paid just short of £22 for an ok rib eye and chips but got a small glass of complimentary wine as pre-booked before 6.30.

It's difficult to get the servers attention as they are moving between kitchen, bar and till so when my food arrived I rushed to order another glass of wine and some water as this wasn't offered before. I assume this is why I wasn't asked if I required any sauces such as mustard, which I would normally have with my steak .

The water arrived promptly but disappointly the wine never materialised even though it was initially charged to my account. Once I pointed this out it was deducted without any issue but I did feel rather uneasy about it.

The rooms are clean and functional.
The staff are generally friendly but I always feel underwhelmed even though I know they are trying to do a good job.

I stay in hotels all over UK and you would expect the price to match the local environment.

This hotel charges £20 plus for a bottle of wine where you could get 4/5 bottles for that in most of the pubs around it.

This was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Bolton for nearly 5 years, the last visit being a weekend break in April 2010. Our room was on the 3rd floor and had views across the town centre. It was fairly well furnished and quite comfortable for our overnight stay. The hotel was also fairly quiet with it being a Sunday evening. We had dinner in the hotels Hardies Restaurant and although very quiet with only two other guests at the same time it felt quite chaotic with the one member of staff spreading herself between the restaurant and the bar. Rashelle who served us in the restaurant was extremely pleasant and welcoming and always had a nice smile.
Breakfast service was horrendous with all hot food trays totally empty and only replenished one tray at a time. Eventually gave up with my wife making do with some toast and I managed to get a fried egg when replenished. By the time the hot plates eventually replenished most of the guests had gone. The kitchen appeared totally disorganised and the member of the restaurant staff who greeted us at breakfast apologised saying that the kitchen had let them down once again. This seems to have happened on more than one occasion since another reviewer has made the same complaint. This was a most disappointing breakfast experience which tarnished what otherwise had been a pleasant stay.
The hotel is located right in the centre of Bolton with immediate access to all the town centre facilities. Free parking is available at the hotel although the underground car park is extremely tight especially if you have a large car. There is an alternative overflow car park to the right of the hotel entrance which provides a good alternative.
We will return to stay again at the hotel in the future and hope the restaurant experience is not repeated. This certainly let the hotel down badly.
