Blackrod will again play host to that strange summer phenomenon 'The Scarecrow' Festival' where local residents make scarecrows in a variety of shapes, sizes and guises and place them outside their property for visitors to come and admire. Its a strange thing and slightly creepy, I find myself wondering if the scarecrows all wake up and move around in the night a bit like a Michael Jackson music video.
However enough of all that imagination, this years Scarecrow Festival will take place in Blackrod, Bolton on the weekend of the 7th and 8th July This year sees over 100 scarecrows registerd to be on display.
The competition, which sees thousands of people descend on the village each July, was named in 2011 as the best Greater Manchester attraction in Northern Rail’s Hidden Gems campaign and sees 1000's of people come into Blackrod for the attraction and is now in its 6th year.
Not only will there be Scarecrows up and down Blackrod Village but there will be a whole host of stalls and refreshments making this a real community event.
