Marathon challenge
Bolton Hospice has been allocated a sought-after guaranteed place in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon – perfectly timed to coincide with its 20th anniversary celebrations next year and the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The charity is now appealing for local people to apply for the place in the world’s most over-subscribed event.
Alice Atkinson, Fundraising Manager at Bolton Hospice, said: “We are only allocated one place in the London Marathon every five years, so we are delighted that this year we can give one of our local supporters the opportunity to run the Olympic race course in the year of the London Olympics.
“We will support our runner in their fundraising every step of the way to raise as much money as possible for Bolton Hospice. We are asking that the successful applicant commits to raising minimum sponsorship of £2,012 – to celebrate the year of the London Olympics and Bolton Hospice’s 20th anniversary.
“Bolton Hospice needs to raise around £2million every year from the local community in order to continue its vital services for local people living with life-limiting illnesses, so if you have always wanted to take on the challenge of a marathon then 2012 could be your year!”
If you would like to apply for Bolton Hospice’s place in the London Marathon, call Aanika on 01204 663055 or email communityfundraiser@boltonhospice.org for an application form.
Alice continues: “We will be selecting one applicant at random on Monday 31st October, which we think is the fairest way of allocating the place.”
If you have secured your own place in the London Marathon or any other running, cycling or triathlon event and would like to raise funds for Bolton Hospice, contact Aanika Dhillon on 01204 663055 or email communityfundraiser@boltonhospice.org for a fundraising pack and t-shirt.
