Bolton Market is to get a facelift and latest plans have been revealed. The improvement scheme was announced late last year and Bolton Council have not revised some of the plans as traders told the council they did not like the original plan to split the market.
Bolton outside market will remain on the site but will now be moved to the other side of the indoor market which is the current place to receive deliveries.
The original plan for the outdoor market was to move it over to the surface level Octagon Car Park but local traders and shoppers said they didn’t want the split sites.
Council bosses will be spending over £3million on general refurbishment such as he infrastructure and roof repairs and there will be a new glass fronted entrance to the market.
Bolton Market was last year awarded Radio 4 Food and Farming, Best Food Market and sees over 300 coach trips to the market each year from outside Bolton which has grown from just 50 trips in 2008.
Work starts early next year and will be finished in time for Christmas 2013.
