It is with a little tinge of sadness that I read in the Bolton News last Friday that late night shopping is to be scrapped in the Market Place Bolton.
In the past I was always an avid late night shopper but in recent years I cant remember the last time I went into Bolton on a Thursday evening. I remember the town used to be fairly busy on a Thursday evening and especially those Thursdays leading up to Christmas but I suppose with the introduction of Sunday trading, the Thursday trade has declined.
The market place tenants took a vote and decided that they would cease to operate the late night opening due to the lack of trade and the closing time would be 6pm now instead of 8pm.
Looking at the positives of this, it will mean that shoppers will be condensed into shorter opening hours and hopefully increase the day time trade in Bolton.
In a statement in the Bolton news, Market Place Centre Manager Rod Neasham said that the centre will begin to open until 8pm again from November to facilitate Christmas Shopping.
