More than 140 pupils from Bolton Muslim Girls School visited Bolton College this week, for a day of sporting fun and activities.
The Olympic-themed sports day was organised by Bolton College students, as part of their Level 3 Higher Sports Leaders award.
In true sporting style, the year nine and 10 students were invited to put their sporting skills to the test, taking part in a range of mini sports events, Wii competitions and quizzes. Bolton College also hosted an opening and closing ceremony for the younger learners, as well as awarding prizes and medals for first, second and third place.
Ben Blocksidge, Bolton College Curriculum Leader for Sport, Fitness and Public Services, said: “Bolton Muslim Girls School wanted to have a sports day in celebration of this summer’s Olympics. Our students were really keen to help them out and co-ordinated an excellent day of activities for the young learners.”
The girls also had the opportunity to see Amir Khan’s Olympic torch, which made a special visit to the college for the occasion.
Ben added: “It was fantastic to see the girls’ excitement when they had the chance to hold the Olympic torch for themselves. We hope they now take that enthusiasm forward with their own participation in sport in the future.”
Zakiyyah Ahmed, Year 10 student at Bolton Muslim Girls School, said: "We would like to thank the college for an amazing experience, the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We are very grateful to have had the opportunity to hold the actual Olympic Torch!"
To help the sports day go off with a bang, a year seven student from Bolton Muslim Girls School designed a special Olympic torch, which was brought to life by staff from Bolton College art department. The torch was displayed at the sports day and will be presented to the young designer, Aisha Patel, at an end of year assembly at the Girls School.
