18 year old Saeed Atcha has been recruited by HRH The Prince of Wales as an #iwill ambassador. #iwill is a campaign aiming to empower more 10-20 year olds to play their part in their communities through meaningful social action.
Saeed has been chosen as one of 50 ambassadors whose role is to tell his story and encourage more young people to take part in social action by 2020. He has been described as “demonstrating a strong commitment to social action through Xplode Magazine Bolton.”
Xplode Magazine Bolton was set up by Saeed when he was 15 years old studying at Ladybridge High School. He created Xplode because he felt that young people were seen far too negatively by adults. 3 years on, Xplode is a registered charity empowering over 70 young people to be the best they can be through giving them the opportunity to increase and inherit skills.
Saeed said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that I’ve been chosen to fly the flag for young people! More than ever before, we’re ready to take on an active part in improving our communities but we’re just not being listened to. I kick off my new role by joining O2’s CEO on stage at The O2 Arena urging businesses and organisations to create fresh opportunities for young people and I can’t wait to see more young people doing something meaningful!”
Step Up To Serve, the charity behind #iwill launched the campaign with the leadership of HRH The Prince of Wales and the three main political parties.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “This campaign is so vital. It represents a unique opportunity to build a legacy of social action that is passed down the generations.”
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg says: “Talent and potential of our young people in this country is limitless. Working together, we can inspire a whole new generation of young people engaging in social action to go that extra mile.”
Labour leader Ed Miliband added: “Volunteering in the service of others is an important way for young people to make a contribution to society, as well as to develop their own skills, experience and character. I am very pleased that he has now brought together all the major youth organisations, with the support of all political parties and of business and faith leaders, to commit to expanding the opportunities for young people to volunteer.”
