On Sunday October 18, Bolton Town Hall will be glowing with pride.
The town hall will be bathed in rainbow-coloured light, a symbol of gay pride, to celebrate Bolton’s first ever Pride event.
The lighting will also provide the backdrop for a candlelit vigil, in support of victims of hate crime, being held between 6pm and 8pm on Victoria Square.
The vigil will end the first ever Pride festival, being held between Friday 16 and Sunday 18 October. Other events that are part of the festival include a interschool football tournament, the first Pride awards and showings of the films ‘Singalonga Frozen’ and ‘Pride’.
The vigil will be attended by the Deputy Mayor of Bolton, Martin Donaghy, Deputy Mayoress Gay Wharton and by Greater Manchester Mayor & Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Lloyd.
The Deputy Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Martin Donaghy said: “We are pleased to be able to show our support for the first ever Pride festival to be held in Bolton and also for Hate Crime Awareness Week. Bolton is an open, tolerant and friendly town which welcomes all faiths, backgrounds and sexualities and we hope that residents will all come along and take part in the first ever Pride festival to be held here.”
