A fun day will be held on Victoria Square on Thursday 23 July from 11am, to promote the goods and services on offer at The Square, a new household, white goods and financial services store.
Bolton Council has teamed up with Bolton at Home, Hoot Credit Union and Age UK Bolton to open the shop, located in the former Millets Store on Victoria Square.
Stiltwalkers, unicyclists, balloon modellers and ukulele playing jesters will entertain the children, whilst their parents can find out more about the goods and services on offer at the shop from staff based in a special marquee on Victoria Square. Bolton FM will also be hosting a roadshow in the marquee.
Visitors to the marquee can also win a free carpet for any room in their house, thanks to Bolton Carpet Warehouse; as well as a brand new washing machine from Paul Davies Kitchens and Appliances.
The new store offers all residents across the borough access to furniture and white goods at an affordable price, and with the option of low cost credit from hoot Credit Union.
Once customers have identified the goods they want to buy, they can purchase them outright, or talk to Hoot Credit Union, where they can discuss a loan for purchasing the item, with affordable rates of interest. If they wish to get money advice, customers can also be referred to the council’s money skills and benefits advisors.
Hoot Credit Union has its own section of The Square for its services, and anyone can drop in to join, to make deposits or withdrawals and access their accounts.
Age UK Bolton also has a base in the retail unit, where residents are able to access a wide range of products and services. The Information and Advice service covers benefits & entitlements, pensions, housing, home and residential care, will-making service and free legal advice. Age UK also offer travel, car and home insurance and funeral plans and energy packages.
The store is funded by the council and its partners, with the council’s share coming from its £1m anti-poverty fund.
