Cook the perfect Turkey this Christmas, with our simple recipe!

What is your meat of choice this year? If you’re sticking to the nation’s favourite, traditional Turkey read on to find out how we recommend you cook a delicious, moist Turkey!

We know you’ll have so much to do for the family so don’t worry this recipe is easy but guaranteed to impress! This recipe serves roughly between 8-10 people!

Tips:

  • Prepare the Turkey with a generous smear of butter, salt and pepper. Season to taste but the key is not to overdo it! Do this the night before and leave it overnight in the fridge.
  • Let the Turkey come to room temperature before you place it in the oven.
  • Fold a large piece of grease proof paper over the breast of the Turkey when cooking to protect the skin.
  • Remove giblets from inside the bird
  • It is handy to know how much the bird weighs for cooking time.
  • You can stuff the turkey with your chosen filling to make it even tastier! For a tasty fragrant flavour, use fresh herbs and clementines.
  • To check if a Turkey is cooked properly insert a knife in to the part where the thigh joins the breast and the juices should run clear.

Ingredients:

1 10lb Turkey
Salt
Pepper
3 large onions, chopped into large pieces.
4 Large carrots (optional)

Step by step:

  • Pre heat the oven to gas mark 7 or 220C on the big day.
  • Put the onions in a large roasting dish and place the bird on a wire rack in the tray also.
  • Pour 2 cups of water in the tray and 1 cup inside the bird, seal it with a skewer.
  • Cover the whole thing with 2 layers of kitchen foil and make sure it is sealed fully around the edge.
  • Put the bird in the oven for the first 20 minutes after this reduce the time to Gas mark 6 or 200C
  • Cook the Turkey for a further 1 1/2 hours, remove the foil and grease paper, then cook for a further 40 minutes to let the skin crisp up.
  • If the Turkey is still pink, cook for another 20 minutes.
  • The Turkey must be left to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
  • Use the juices from the tray to make a tasty onion flavoured gravy but don’t forget to skim off any excess fat.
