The nation’s park lands are the lungs of the country, and no less so here in Bolton.
In the 21st Century we are not living in depressed conditions that our forefathers endured with heavy industry belching out noxious fumes and many people struggling underground to eke out a living, thank goodness. However, the foresight of those earlier generations has left us with a rich legacy, for many of our parks were established during those darker times.
Bolton is blessed with some of the most pleasant parks in the country, something undervalued by some and overlooked by many. National Parks Week is an annual event intended to re-ignite the spark of interest, to remind us of the special amenity in the heart of our towns and to help us re-connect with this valuable natural asset.
Queens Park, here in Bolton, is a traditional style of park with something for everyone. If you like lovely ornamental gardens they are at their best in summer. Do you like to sit a while and enjoy the view? Queens Park has lovely, interesting, vistas for you. Youngsters will enjoy the play park with its sand pit, and mazes. Doubtless there will be some interesting fun events during the National Parks Week with something for all to enjoy.
Moss Bank Park is very popular with children because of its large play area, fairground rides, mini steam train and of course the wildlife gardens. Butterflies flutter beautifully in the tropical area, and a host of interesting animals are displayed as closely as possible to their natural state, these include farm animals as well as exotics.
Moses Gate Country Park is surely one of the nicest places to visit in the Town with its extensive walks and open scenery. A great attraction for Bolton residents, and people from far and wide, who enjoy what the great outdoors has to offer. Lakes, wildlife, wide open spaces, a wildlife reserve for migrating birds, fishing, canoeing and the biggest play area in Bolton. Something for everyone is to be found here ensuring a great day out for all.

If you are tired and jaded, maybe re-charge your batteries by coming along to see what is happening during National Parks Week, you have nothing to lose but the blues.
