Cervical Screening Awareness Week takes place this June from 8-14th, why not book yourself a cervical screening test.
Cervical Screening Awareness week aims to draw attention to cervical problems and make everyone aware to get themselves checked. At the moment, around 20% of British women don’t go to their screening, and we all want that to reduce.
A cervical screening test, which can also be named a smear test is a method to detect abnormal cells which are pre-cancerous in the cervix, which is the entrance to the womb from the vagina.
The test isn’t to check for cancer, it’s to simply check whether everything is normal in the cervix, most women’s results show everything is normal but we want to make sure everyone gets theirs.
All women aged between 25 and 64 are invited for cervical screening. Women aged between 25 and 49 are invited for testing every three years, and women older than this are invited every five year so if you’re within any of those age gaps, why not go to yours.
If you’d like to get involved in the week, there’s many ways you can. You can get some leaflets printed and display them in local places, you could even run your own stand with the leaflets or organise an event
If you’d like to find out more information about cervical screening, they have a whole article on their website which you could read at your fingertips
Are you worried about having the cervical cancer screening? Why not get in touch with Sykes Chemist because they can offer you so much friendly information.
