Can you spare two-three hours a week to help a family in need? Then please get in touch with Home Start Bolton as they’re looking for volunteers.

Home Start volunteers provide invaluable help and support to families across Bolton. The volunteers give the families they work with one on one assistance in the service users own homes.

Some of your duties of being a volunteer at Home Start Bolton will include:

  • Giving links to other services and information that might help families

  • Providing emotional and moral support to families, especially if they are experiencing major problems in their life like legal troubles or health issues

  • Interacting with children, by reading stories and playing games

  • Offering advice on managing money, eating well, shopping, going to appointments etc

The only criteria you need to be a volunteer with Home Start Bolton is to have experience with looking after young children yourself. The Home Start team will carry out an enhanced CRB check and take 2 references from you before you start with them.

Home Start Bolton will then give you a 10 week training course so you fully understand what to do whilst you’re part of the Home Start programme.

Although you obviously won’t be paid whilst you’re a volunteer, they will cover any travel expenses you occur as part of your visits. You’ll be expected to visit families for 2-3 hours every week and therefore only consider becoming a volunteer if you definitely have time each week.
